MRP/MPS and Scheduling Work Centers in an Automated Environment

Session ID: MFG84Date: Tuesday, October 16

Time: 4:15 PM - 5:15 PM

Type: Presentation

Level: AdvancedPresenter: Andrew Good, MCT, DCP, President & CEO, Liberty Grove Software

Factories large and small are making use of more automation and robotics to streamline production. This has led to higher quality and cheaper products which benefit everyone, but now scheduling is more complex and detailed. Why? Automated equipment and robots have fixed production cycles and outputs. You can’t hire ‘temp’ robots like you can humans, so production scheduling in D365 Business Central / Dynamics NAV requires more detailed setup, such as Shop Calendars, Capacity, Efficiency, and Scrap Codes. There is also less systemic scrap but much higher non-systemic scrap, which makes production consumption harder to monitor. We will explore these components, and how MES captures real-time data from automated equipment to post consumption or output into the system.

Come One, Come All

Another year, another NAVUG Summit? Well…not exactly. Because this year’s Summit is different than the last 10. Call it seminal. Groundbreaking. Pivotal.

Just take a look:

This is the first year that the Summit is branded for both Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Thus, it’s the BCUG/NAVUG 2018 Summit.

And while has always been a Summit sponsor, we’re especially proud to be a Platinum Sponsor at this groundbreaking conference that acknowledges what we all know to be the case. is transitioning to . This has a huge impact on us as a Microsoft Dynamics Partner. And more importantly, it has a huge, and we believe positive, impact on our clients.

Here’s what you need to know

The SaaS version of Dynamics 365 Business Central has been available since April 2018 and in a few months, we'll also have the on-premises version. This version will be the evolution of Dynamics NAV (so it might be time to start forgetting this name!) and it will have the same codebase as the online version.

Here’s what it says on the official Microsoft Dynamics NAV web site.

Dynamics NAV is now Dynamics 365 Business Central, an all-in-one business management solution with a modern user experience and the flexibility to deploy in the cloud or on-premises as your business needs require. With a transition as seamless as any regular Dynamics NAV upgrade, Business Central offers the benefits of a cloud-based solution without compromising on the functionality of Dynamics NAV.

Contact your Dynamics partner for more information. That’s us! Liberty Grove.

If you’re going to be Summit in Phoenix from October 15-18, you can visit the team, the experts in food and beverage manufacturing and distribution, at booth #1334 in the Expo center. All day, every day of the conference.

If you’re not coming to Summit, contact us in Chicago at 630-858-7388, in Toronto at 416-646-8484, or via email at nav@libertygrove.com. It’s time to chat about NAV > Business Central.

Every company perceives itself as a unique business with unique business requirements. So when it comes to selecting an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, no one wants a cookie cutter solution that might turn out to be an effort to fit a square a peg into a round hole.

This is especially true for companies in the Food & Beverage space that have to handle perishables, FDA compliance, and potential recalls. Some ERP systems are not equipped to manage those issues. So yes, Food & Beverage companies truly have unique needs.

Dynamics Food ERP

That’s why Liberty Grove developed , a solution that is Certified for Microsoft Dynamics (CfMD) and built for the food industry. It addresses the needs of both distributors and manufacturers, including needs that range from Quality Control, Container Management, and Catch-weight, to in-line scales and labeling printing.

Dynamics Food ERP is built on the collective experiences of the 200+ companies that run it today.

What’s more, because the needs of different food industry segments vary (for example Dairy vs Fruit & Vegetables), our software also provides segment-specific functionality.

Bigger Isn’t Always Better

The giants of the Food & Beverage industry are household names – Nabisco, Nestle, Coca-Cola. They’re billion dollar, publicly-traded, international conglomerates whose products dominate the supermarket and grocery store shelves. And sure, they run ERP systems. But the systems they run probably cost more than the annual revenue of thousands of smaller, local, niche-market Food & Beverage companies.

Smaller Food & Beverage companies need much of the same functionality, but at a price point that they can afford. Dynamics Food ERP, built on the foundation of Microsoft Dynamics NAV and elegantly customized for the Food & Beverage industry, is the solution for these smaller companies.

Take a look at all of the that we serve and all of the that we’ve developed. And you’ll know that you’ve come to the right place.

With the demise of Microsoft Certification requirements for Microsoft Dynamics NAV partners in 2014, there was a large void created. That is, how do you know that your employees, consultants and/or partners understand NAV? The creation of DynamicsPro with their Credentialing process and exam allows users, consultants and partners to demonstrate their understanding of the product in a consistent manner.
